Below is a guide to selecting the correct length of board based on average height and build.
These measurements are only a guide - The type of board chosen and the style of riding
also needs to be taken into consideration.

Snowboard sizing

Length is one of the more important characteristics when choosing a snowboard,
but there are also other considerations such as heavy riders requiring a stronger or wider board,
or riders with large feet where a wide board might be needed to prevent the toes or heels from
overhanging the board too much, causing unnecessary drag.

What length should the board be?

For an average build person - with the board placed
upright on the ground, the tip of the board should come up to the height of your chin.

Heavier riders should have longer less flexible boards.

Lighter riders should have shorter more flexible boards.

Freestyle riders often use a shorter board allowing better maneuverability.
Freeride and racing may require a longer board to better handle
powder and offer more stability.

How wide should the board be?

The board should be wide enough that your toes
do not overhang the board too much. Approximately 10-15mm would be the desired
amount.

Men and heavier riders will generally need a wider board than women or lighter riders.

Choosing the correct width board is important as a board that is too wide can be just as bad
as a board that is too narrow and affect the boards ability to turn and get from edge to edge quickly.

What level of board should I buy?

Buy a board that suits your riding level, a board that is too advanced
will not flex enough, and its dimensions (sidecut, edge angle etc.) will hinder your development.
A board that is not advanced enough will possibly not withstand the pressures of a good rider
and will not perform to your requirements. Recommended Retail Price is the best indicator of level.

What style of board should I buy?

Freeride, Freestyle, or All Mountain? Men’s or Women’s?

Every board on the market can be used in most situations but their characteristics lean towards
an end use. If you are new to the sport and not sure what category will suit you best most entry level
boards suit all mountain riding. When you know what direction you are headed choosing the right board
is important because stance settings and board characteristics can be dramatically different.
