TORPEDO7 Freeride Roof Mount Bike Rack
$49.99
*Valid until 10am Monday 28th May
The latest in bike transportation from Torpedo 7 is the Freeride Roof Mount Bike Rack.
This rack is the ultimate in convenience, just fit it to your roof racks, clamp and strap your bike in and forget about it. You can still access the boot with your bike out of the way on the roof (unlike towball-mounted racks), and should the worst happen and you get rear-ended by another car, your bikes won’t be the first point of contact like if they were mounted on a towball rack.
The Freeride Roof Mount Rack has been designed with a large range of bikes in mind and will cater to most rider’s needs with great adjustability.
What do you need to be able to use the Torpedo7 Bike Carrier? You need roof racks that run horizontally across your roof, like the Torpedo7 Roof Rack
Specifications:
- Adapts to different size Bike frames with Downtubes up to 60mm in diameter
- Bolts straight onto your roof racks - 2 sizes of supplied bracket to fit your roof racks, either standard (up to 40mm high x 45mm wide) or oversize (up to 40mm high x 80mm wide)

- Pre-drilled holes along the length of the channel allow total adjustment for the positioning of the clamps, both front and rear

Fits a Rav 4
TimWallis, Marybank -Nelson
This is a good kit, especially for the price. It's easy to assemble and everything fits well. It would be good if they gave you another 6 x locking nuts though to lock in the tighteners. Anything over car height ie. my Rav 4, you'll need a small step ladder to get your bike on the roof. Delivery was fast and it was very well packed. Great job.

It works
PaulMcNabb, The Wood
I fitted two of these to an old pro rack today. Easy to setup and I loaded up three different bikes with no trouble. The pack includes a couple of small straps to hold the wheels down and a trek, jamis and giant xtc all went into the clamp well. The clamp locks which might be good for detering thieves but also should stop the clamp coming loose. There will be bikes that don't fit into the clamp but with some imagination most should be able to adapt this, at this price it's worth a shot!

Good as gold
ClaytonSchimanski, Kelvin Grove
Have had this rack for a couple of years now and have had no trouble whatsoever. Was a nice price on special and has carried my alloy anthem mtb and carbon road bike all over the country without a bother. No probs with the diameter of either downtubes. Recommend!

Money for Quality
KurtVernall, Te Awamutu
I use this Rack for my Giant Trance and i must say I feel uneasy using this. The main down tube clamps are designed for smaller downtubes (road bikes) and not so much the modern day mountainbike. The metal tray is 'flimsy' as others have mentioned.
Pros: it is much cheaper than any other racks, easy to setup, compatible with roof bars, good if you want to test roof racks but dont want to spend $$.
With roof racks you pay for the what you get as other have mentioned, yes this is a little cheap but still works fine just ensure you tighten the downtube clamp a lot.. and i use bungees to strap my bike down for peace of mind.

You get what you pay for
SantiagoBermeo, Paraparaumu Beach
I've had 2 for over a year and they have generally been good. Agree with "a bit flimsy" description. After a year sitting on the roof of the car there is quite a bit of rust and peeling paint. Some wear on the plastic holding the metal screw across the clamp. Red plastic bits on the clamp have fallen of a few times. But overall good value for money compared to the alternatives. Lets see how much longer they last (hopefully I don't find out on the motorway!). Need to clean MTB before loading it and use a cloth between bike and clamp to prevent scratches.

Great value and versatile
FrankGuymer, MOUNT WAVERLEY
Great value and quick delivery. A bit fiddly to fit on the car and possibly a bit flimsy, but the racks work very well on top of the car (Subaru/Rola roof bars). We bought three, put two bits of timber accross the top of our box trailer (like roof racks) and bolted the three racks to the timber. Makes an excellent three bike rack with room in the trailer for gear. Keeps the height low too, no fears about low clearance places.

Good Price, Suitable Rack
NickMcAlinden, Brisbane
Pros.
Easy to assemble and fit to existing roof rack. Fantastic Price.
Cons.
A little wobbly, ie bike moves a bit laterally. Plastic wingnuts easy to undo (Bike and rack could be easily stolen from top of car). However in saying that I don't generally leave bikes on the roof of my car overnight or for extended periods of time.
Overall quite acceptable. I have another existing rack where it locks the forks in and it is much more stable and rigid. Was more expensive though.

As good as any other I’ve seen
MickCarthey, Glenmore Park, NSW
Another T7 special I couldn't let pass, particularly after just selling my old tow-bar mounted rack a week earlier.
Real easy to put together, but not quite as easy to mount on the cars roof racks. I've got standard Ford issue sports roof racks on my Falcon and with about 2cm clearance between the rack and the roof of the car I did have a little fun mounting the rear bracket because it's inverted, meaning the chunky handles on the retaining screws point down towards the roof (check the product images to see what I mean).
But in saying that it was only a mild inconvenience and nothing a bit of patience and a cloth (to stop scratching the roof of my car) couldn't deal with.
The other question I had about this was just how well the clamp was going to retain the square-shaped downtube I have on my Merida HT - the answer is its pretty good actually and although I don't need any extra support, I do feel better with some so I also wrap a tie (similar to the one supplied with the rack for the wheels) around the clamp and the downtube to ensure there's no chance of it going anywhere.
In the end, on special it's about 25% of the cost of anything else similar on the market and just another great T7 product.

Great value for money
PaulWilson, Brooklyn -Wgtn
It fits together very easily and holds my bike nice and safe on the roof. The price is excellent and the quality seems great. Time will tell if it will go the distance, but looks good so far.

Good value
AdrianJurke, Khandallah
Seems a bit lightweight and not sure how long it will last being left on the roof all the time. Screws just seem to keep going slowly bending the metal. MTB didn't fall off 4WD roof for first trip though so fingers crossed.

Not ideal
RichardCurrie, Christchurch
Agree with the "flimsy" comment above, would be OK for road bikes but for my 14kg MTB it had me constantly stopping my car to check on the security of the bike. I have sinced purchased the version where the front wheel is removed and this is a much superior product, I guess you get what you pay for.

flimsy roof mount rack
NeilShewan, Huntsbury
Not that impressed. Fairly flimsy appearance. I had to grind back fixing knobs so they would turn properly, and the frame clamp has elongated fixing holes which allows the bike to sway somewhat. If you try to do up the frame clamp tight the square bolt head turns in the soft plastic that is supposed to hold it.

Great Value
IanParrott, VINCENTIA
I recently bought two units and they have handled a couple of trips to Canberra from the NSW South Coast with no problems despite their fairly flimsy appearance.
The only problem is that if the clearance between the roof and the existing roof rack is less than approximatly 3 cm you will need to modify the bike racks rear attachments slightly.
Once again great Torpedo 7 value.
