Named after one of the toughest climbs in Italy, "The Mortirolo" is considered to be the toughest mountain one can climb and many professional cyclists consider it as the most difficult mountain to be riden in any of the three major tours. The Mortirolo is situated in Lombardy. Lucho Herrera (1991) referred to Mortirolo as being the "Queen climb of Europe" and Lance Armstrong referred to it as the hardest climb he’d ever ridden.
The Mortirolo frameset from Wilier showcases how the Italians virtually invented the classic frame geometry and displays most of these fundamental traits. The overall ride feel is fairly aggressive, a racer’s frame again and with full-carbon the harder you push you get that instant response whether you’re on flat roads or climbing. Go nuts for an all out sprint and the Mortirolo put’s its hand up for that too, and it takes on corners in the same trusted manner. But best of all, descending is sure enough to inspire that repeated run on your favourite piece of down-hill.
Beautiful and classic in its appearance with smooth, flowing lines giving away it’s bloodlines and two-piece carbon construction. With the distinctive almost level top tube and features an integrated headset up front. Overall a frame that speaks volumes about its racing heritage and classic ride quality.
The 1182g (53cm) frame, is the result of a balanced mix of carbon fibers with specific mechanical properties of resistance and elasticity.
These days Wilier operates out of a modern purpose built facility in Rossano Veneto. They produce around 13,000 bikes a year and serve 250 dealers across Italy.
Wilier Triestinaisthe rare brand that has donemore than merely survive, they are the longest surviving Italian owned bicycle company and have survived two world wars to come into prominence in Italy’s post-war revival, cycle-racing era, when it took on the name of its Giro-winning team—Wilier Triestina. Wilier was foundedin 1906 in Bassano del Grappa - one of Italy’s most historic cycling cities. Home of the 1985 World Championship Road Race, it’s at the foot of the epic climb of Monte Grappa. While they’re aware of their historical pedigree, they are unaddicted to sentimentality. Instead Wilier has embraced the most modern materials and methods to produce road racing frames that aren’t just best-from-Italy, but the best available anywhere.
Wilier has long been a mainstay of the professional peloton, most famously under Team Lampre, starring riders like 2008 World Champion Alessando Ballan and Giro d’Italia champion and 3-time winner of the Tour of Lombardy Damiano Cunego.
