Crankworx Rotorua Sign 10-Year Contract!

Rotorua have secured Crankworx until at least 2027, after signing a contract to lock in the event for the next ten years. It’s big news for the New Zealand bike community and especially Rotorua, who get to host one of mountain biking’s biggest events in their local backyard for years to come.

Crankworx first came to Rotorua in 2015, kickstarting the Crankworx World Tour before it heads to Les Gets, France and then home to Whistler, Canada. After two successful years of the event being held at the Skyline Rotorua Gravity Park, the event has gained enough momentum with riders and spectators on an international scale to be held there until at least 2027.

Event director Tak Mutu said it’s a game changer for the festival, which generated more than $8 million for the Rotorua economy in the 2016 event week and exposed the district to more than 6.1 million worldwide viewers. The 10-year deal is thanks to Mountain bike events (A local Rotorua non-profit) and the Canadian owners Crankworx Events. Rotorua Lakes District mayor is wrapped with the events growth and aims to confirm further events past the contract.

What does it mean for the event in New Zealand? It allows for expansion and the investment of further resources to keep progressing the event. Tak explains how Crankworx opens a world of possibilities that go far beyond the riding. An epic benefit of the 10-year set location deal is how it allows the Crankworx team to unleash their creative minds. Tak and his crew want to innovate the Crankworx festival in Rotorua to be at the forefront of biking events worldwide, pushing racing, competing and going further to expose Crankworx to new people and add value to their experience.

The 2017 event will be running for nine days from March 25 to April 2, a full four days longer than in the first two years. The T7 crew are looking forward to Crankworx this year and know it’ll be one for the books. If you are contemplating a trip to Rotorua for the event, make it happen. See you out there!
