Crankworx Ramps Up the Action for Families

Inspiration will be pumping and mini-shredders will be having a blast as they test their skills, learn new tricks and mingle with the pros during the ramped-up Kidsworx, to be held in the thick of the Crankworx action, March 9-13.

From techy skill sessions to scavenger hunts and downhill races, not to mention plenty of goodies to pimp their rides, the new Kidsworx events and activities will see young riders and their families fuelling the Crankworx atmosphere like never before, says Kidsworx operations manager Marcello Ojerio.

“Crankworx is the biggest bike festival in the world in our own backyard. Families and kids can watch all the action, mix and mingle with the best riders in the world and come along to ride their bikes for as long as they want,” he says.

Landing in Rotorua for the inaugural Crankworx event in 2015, families embraced the opportunity to get in on all the action during the inaugural festival, and this year’s events and activities are expected to ignite the same spirit, teaching, inspiring and taking all the fun to a whole new level.

“The feedback from parents last year was really positive, they said it was great that there was a place for the kids to ride and it allowed the family to participate in the experience. This year we’re looking to get even more families involved.

“To make sure every kid has the opportunity to give the Kidsworx trails a go, Spawn Cycles and GIANT will be onsite with bikes available for kids to demo.

“Another exciting addition this year is an exclusive kids’ pump track. It’s being built by Empire of Dirt, the same team who built the main Crankworx pump track, and they can’t wait to build one for the kids. It’s going to be the real deal!”

Making things easy for parents, all kids will have access to a VIP parking spot for their bike, so they can park their ride securely when they’re not using it.

Racing the pump track or to getting some coaching will be free for Crankworx ticket holders, as will the Tiki Tour Scavenger Hunt, the Tamariki Track and Kidsworx Pimp My Ride. The two key competitive events—the Hipster DH Race presented by Spawn Cycles and the Skyline Warrior DH Race—are just $22 to race, with registration done strictly online via Crankworx.com. Space is limited to 160 spots per race, so register quickly to secure a spot.

The Kidsworx area is open from 10am-5pm, letting kids ride for as long as they like.
