Top Tips to Tune Your Bike in Time for Spring

Now that it?s spring, the days are longer, the sun is warmer and it?s finally time again to jump on your bike and hit those trails. Before you get out there though, make sure you get the most out of your ride with a service. Check out our five top tips to tune up your bike this spring:

  1. Keep it clean!

Grab a non-abrasive cleaner, a towel and an old toothbrush and scrub off that dirt from top to bottom. Don?t forget about nature and use as little water as possible!

  1. Check the brakes!

Safety first! Squeeze the brakes and check if the brake pads (two rubber bits that hit the metal tire rim when pushed) hit the rim at the same time. If they?re worn out or uneven it?s time for a replacement.

  1. Inspect the drivetrain!

Raise the rear wheel and give it a spin. Shift through all the gears to make sure it?s a smooth and easy experience.

  1. Inspect the tires!

Check your tires for splits, cracks or tears, especially along the side. Also, check out the tread for uneven or excessive wear.

  1. Add Lubricant!

Slowly rotate the pedals in a counter clockwise direction and evenly apply lubricant to the chain. Get rid of any excess oil with a clean, dry rag, especially on the chain.
