  • Better than expected
Ridden a few rides, so far the chain hasn't jumped off, normally I run a guide but obviously you can't with the oval sprocket. It seems to give a bit more power uphill. Also no noticeable lurching as I thought might be the case. Seems like a worthy investment

  • Easy Fit, Better than Standard
Have long wanted to try an oval chainwheel and was finally tempted by special price. Was easy to install and moved the chain line on my boost frame 2mm closer to the centreline of the bike which lessened the chain de-railing on back pedalling, in the lower gears of my 1 x 11 drivetrain.

The narrow/wide tether noisy at the long axis of the chainwheel but seems to be reducing slightly as it "wears-in".

  • 1-2 gears higher on steep climbs
When I first swapped this for the stock Shimano 32T ring that came on the bike there seemed to be no difference; certainly didn't feel the ovality on normal XC rides. But after a while I have noticed that I picked up a couple of kph before I spin out plus (after a query about it from a mate I was riding with) I noticed I was clearing climbs in the middle of the cassette instead of down in the bigger cogs. So difference has been subtle but should be worth it in the long term. Since I'm now "wasting" a couple of granny gears might try a 34T Oval and get a few more kph at the top end - which we seem to lose when going 1x11 Shimano. If I can get the ratios to work out I might try one on the SS as well as hearsay is that traction is improved.
