  • Mostly happy
There have been a couple of problems, but now they're resolved, my daughter and I are both happy.

The biggest problem was that the seat post supplied for the child's saddle is the wrong diameter (too large) for the seat tube where it's supposed to fit. My solution was to find another saddle and seat post and make a shim out of a tin can. Torpedo7 said they would resolve this. I told them about the problem a couple of days before Christmas and it's Jan 4 now. I may need to remind them. For reference, the supplied seat post was 28.6 diameter. I don't have a caliper, so unfortunately I can't let you know the correct diameter. The folks at Torpedo7 couldn't tell me either because there wasn't one in the store I phoned. It looked like it was only a mm or so too big.

The second problem only affects parents whose saddle is not far above the top of their rear wheel. My wife is about 5'3" and her bike has 26" wheels, so it affects her. I'm 5'8" with 700c wheels and it doesn't affect me. Anyway, the problem has two aspects: the tag-along beam arching over the parent's rear wheel, and undoing the quick release under the parent's saddle. My wife's saddle is not much higher than the top of her tyres. She's having to ride with the saddle higher than she wants so that the tag-along beam doesn't rub against her back tyre. And because there's not enough room for the quick release lever to be released, she has to undo the allen screws which connect the mounting bracket to the seat post so that she can un-hitch the tag-along .

I think this product could have been designed better to deal with these clearance issues: a higher arch in the beam and sideways operation of the quick release would solve both problems.

Riding with the tag-along attached isn't too difficult. Steering is a bit heavier than without the tag-along, and unless your kid is a budding Tour de France rider, going up hills will be more difficult. There's a bit of play in the attachment between the pa
