We recently had the opportunity to take a trip to Cardrona and experience an alternate perspective to the regular snowscape.
The Cardrona Bike Park is in it’s first full season after a successful trial season over the 2014/15 summer and has something to offer for everyone from hardcore DH trails, cruisy XC runs, mountain carts, walking & hiking routes and even a guided star-gazing adventure just a short walk from their on-hill accommodation. There’s a cafe running for snacks, lunch and even dinner along with on hill retail and rental for those looking to get amongst the ever increasing number of trails up the hill.
While still in it’s early days, the trail network is varied and offers something for everyone, even playing host to recent rounds of both the New Zealand XC and DH National MTB series.
It’s strange to see the landscape without it’s regular coat of snow and it gives you a new appreciation of the earthworks that go in to delivering the epic terrain that Cardrona is known for.
It may be a little unnerving watching your bike hang off the chair in front of you but the set up is rock solid and not having to ride up means you’ve got more energy to spend on the downs!
Thanks Cardrona for an awesome time. We may be looking forward to getting up for some laps on the slippery stuff in a couple of months time but you can bet that we’ll be back next summer for more!!
