The Evolution of Tecnica Ski Boots

Tecnica are a family of skiers committed to building the best ski boots that can take you places you never thought possible. #TAKEYOUTHERE

Tecnica is a brand rapidly back on the rise, they’ve been making leaps and bounds over the past four years in the ski boot scene.

The ascension back to the lofty heights of past years started with the introduction of the Cochise range of boots in 2012. Backcountry skiing and Touring was on the rise and until then the boots in the market offered performance moving up the hill (with low weight being the key factor here) but to be fair offered mixed results when skiing down.

Tecnica’s solution was the Cochise. A boot with an industrial walking mode – the IFS Intelligent Freeride System – which offered a huge range of motion for comfortable walking and skinning, but when engaged into ski mode you have uncompromised true downhill alpine skiing performance. This has proved to be the key to success. The competitive ski tourer will always consider the weight factor but for the backcountry enthusiast a little bit of extra weight on the way up made for a more precise exhilarating ride down…… which of course is the most common goal! The Cochise range of boots with its bright colours and high performance, quickly became a benchmark boot in the Australasia market and continues to dominate in 2016.

Tecnica now wanted to revamp their high performance alpine range. In 2013 this program began with a brilliantly simple step – get a selection of the US and Europe’s best bootfitters and start the discussion about what they, as bootfitters AND skiers wanted in a ski boot. The result was Project 165 (165 is the pantone code for Tecnica Orange) – a council of forward thinking, highly experienced bootfitters that can help Tecnica set a new standard in performance, comfort and quality.

The MACH1 series was born.

Performance and comfort were equally a key focus – so it was a no to heat customisable shells, ensuring they maintained the integrity of the shell to ensure precise performance – and a yes to a super customisable liner to ensure the greatest of comfort.

The new CAS – Custom Adaptive Shape liner improved anatomical fit – pre-shaped to better match the foot, but also the shell exactly. This means better fit, less voids between liner and shell, less weight, and therefore improved transfer of the skier’s energy. This liner is fully heat customisable – can be punched if required to match any shell work and can even be ground for problem areas if needed.

Step two was a CAS shell – Custom Adaptive Shell – The shell comes in two different lasts, a LV Low Volume 98mm or MV Medium Volume 100mm last. Unlike some competitors the LV is a completely new mould so it is 7% less volume in all areas rather that a volumiser under the foot or extra padding in the liner. The result being a better fit for narrower feet or simply a more aggressive and responsive fit for those wanting more power or control.

This LV last has been especially popular in the ladies specific models due to the generally narrower nature of a women’s foot.

The CAS liner has now been introduced into the top Cochise models – the Cochise 130 Pro and 120 – improving the performance and comfort of the Cochise range even more.

The CAS Shell also has dimples in key “common work zones” allowing a faster more accurate punch when stretching/customising the shell.

So whether you are looking for performance backcountry, all mountain or more traditional front side type performance, the new Tecnica Cochise or Mach1 boots take you there.
