But this isn’t a prank!
Entries to the Torpedo7 Spring Challenges open this Friday April 1st, 2016.
This is a big year for the event with the 10th South Island edition being run plus the launch of the inaugural North Island version.
For the South Island, we’re thrilled to be hosting the 10th birthday and we’ll be having a beach party at the finish to celebrate, accompanied with music, beverage, bbq burgers and cheer the hundreds of teams crossing the finish line.
Golden Bay is the host venue for the South Island. The event village will be centrally based from the Golden Bay Holiday Park.
Teams have contacted us regarding accommodation in Golden Bay concerned they may not get any. You’ll be pleased to know that at peak summer capacity they cater for around 10,000 people, admittedly many of them are camping but that’s an option, renting a caravan or pitching a tent.
Anywhere in Golden Bay will be fine in terms of location, but obviously closer to the event village is more convenient.
We’ll be doing a commemorative event tee shirt again this year, from Tineli Performance Wear, a friendly reminder that it’s European sizing which tends to be 1-2 sizes smaller that what we’re used to in New Zealand, we suggest you order a size or two bigger when asked for sizes online, when you enter.

In 2015 the event sold out in 12-days, we then started a waiting list which grew so large that we even stopped adding teams to it. Hundreds of women who wanted to take part missed out, and some had even booked flights and accommodation, but they delayed getting their entry in.
If you are keen to do the event, while we can’t know for certain how the entries will go, if you want to take part we suggest you enter early on April 1st to secure a spot. Entries open at 7:00am.
We’re excited for both of the developments for 2016. The new locations and courses that have been prepared we believe are fine products of our years of experience designing and delivering adventure racing opportunities for women.
We do ask a favour that you let your North Island friends know about the Rotorua event as ‘word of mouth’ is our best way of reaching them. The Spring Challenge ‘movement’ has empowered so many women through adventure, encouraging them to step out of daily routines and stereotypical roles, to do something for themselves, a journey of discovery and self improvement. Many of you will agree that it’s an incredibly supportive environment to develop fitness, gain health and have some great fun. Our goal is to help create those shifts in some North Island women and you can help us.
