The countdown is on and my pre-race butterflies have started earlier than usual, have I done enough training is what keeps going through my mind, should I trade my chair for a standing desk and why is everyone in the office coughing in January!  I have a history of getting sick in the weeks leading up to an event so this time I’m hitting the vitamin-C early to ward off those office bugs.
Equally, my gear and the compulsory gear list have been playing on my mind, have I got everything I need to pass gear inspection and what nutrition do I need to fuel me up an 1848m ascent.
Below are some items I recommend for the Torpedo7 Skyline Traverse.
Fill your hydration pack with water and drop in a couple of SIS GO Hydro Tablets. Done. Â They completely dissolve leaving nothing behind and taste great.
A staple item, if you prefer a loose fitting tee on the trails then try the Crest tee for its moisture wicking and fast drying properties.
Salomon Men’s Bonatti Waterproof Jacket
The 2017 Red Bull Defiance proved that snow can fall around the Wanaka hills in January, so be prepared with this lightweight Climapro 10K jacket from Salomon.
Many events now require you to carry an emergency survival bag. Emergency blankets will not pass gear inspection. If you’re injured you could be waiting hours before assistance arrives, a survival bag protects you from the weather and reflects over 90% of radiated body heat.
If you like stats and data and like to share and compare online, the Garmin Fenix will let you know where you’re placed in the trail running world.
